David began his insurance career shortly after graduating college with Bachelor’s Degrees in Economics and Engineering. He became an agent and manager at the family insurance agency, providing both commercial and personal insurance. After a few years, David opened his own agency with one employee, specializing in personal auto insurance.
Fourteen years later, his agency had grown to include 4 locations and 14 employees, selling auto, home, umbrella, and life insurance; making it one of the largest personal lines agency in Alaska. During this time David also managed to earn a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, as well as earning the designations of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and Certified Risk Manager (CRM).
Seeking growth and a further challenge, David moved the family to Seattle in 2008, to take a job with Safeco Insurance Company, in a research and development position. Realizing that he missed the agency life, he started a new agency in Seattle, Norwest Insurance Agency. He wanted the focus of Norwest to be more than just selling policies. He wanted to educate and be a trusted advisor for his clients, teaching them how to use their insurance dollars wisely.
What David likes most about his profession is the opportunity to talk with his clients. To get to know them and advise them on their risk exposures and insurance needs. It’s that personal connection, and the opportunity to use the knowledge acquired over 20 years in the industry, that drives his love of the agency business.
